We’re WIGGIN Out Over Coachella

Posted On: April 20, 2017 By: Pinky

Coachella is here!!!

And it is really no different than years past; with glitter braids, flash tattoos, unicorn highlighter and lots & lots of faux hair!!!

Super Model Chanel Iman went for a mermaid multi-pastel colored extension braided vibe at this years Coachella – which is the perfect event where literally anything goes!!! As you can tell the term “uniform” isn’t even a factor as her braids are in all different sizes, patterns & directions.

This trio dared to be different even including their hair colors. Cosplay wigs are a great way to experience and play with color especially those colors that you wish you could have but know that your real hair won’t stand up to the task.

Yes, Poetic Justice braids, Boxer braids or Barley Rolls (whichever you wish to deem them) are still trending into 2017 and this girl featured below choose to include a vibrant red into her braids giving her look a Va Va Va Voom effect!!! These are more uniform which is traditionally the styling norm but your color options are endless…so have fun!!!

And the 2017 OSCAR for Best Hair goes to…

Posted On: March 1, 2017 By: Chelsea

This years Oscars were filled with glitz & glamour, political satire & consciousness and (as seems the trend these days) presenters awarding the wrong winners.

But for me that night the winner for best Hairstyles came from actresses: Ruth Negga, Janelle Monae and Salma Hayek for Best Hair Accessories

“Remember you do not have to be born into royalty to feel like a Queen” Ruth Negga opted for a ruby red crown to compliment her custom Valentino gown. By adding a crown or any hair accessory for that matter really glams up a pixie haircut and provides versatility to shorter hair lengths.

Janelle Monae singer turned actress turned Oscar winner choose to go for a Grecian theme with her crown using gold leafing and diamonds to accentuate her pixie cut; this was a great segway  or tie into her overall look of “gold baby…yea!!”

Don’t fret I haven’t forgotten about about all you medium to long haired girls…next I will highlight Salma Hayek who also even though not nominated for an Oscar (presenter) wanted to attract attention and stay on trend with this years accessory trends: ACTUALLY!!! to be honest she is probably has been privy to this trend way before us all being the wife of billionaire François-Henri Pinault family owned conglomerates like Gucci, Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen & Yves Saint Laurent.

P.S. Salma wore Alexander McQueen that night “Quel Surprise”

2017 The MoMu Modern Mullet

Posted On: January 24, 2017 By: Chelsea

Hate to break it to you but this is NOT a typo…this is officially the yea of the Mullet!!!

Junior Stylist Ciara was well ahead of the curve last year whilst in her pupilage at The London Hair Academy, as she performed this classic 80′s revamp on a client – Image Courtesy of Ciara | Salon Pink Junior Stylist

The point of a mullet is the back is longer and the front is shorter – by converting your cut to clients age and face shape it morphs into the MoMu that will work with just about anyone and is signature to each individual.

The above client came into the salon with below the shoulder length hair and was looking for a change.

The mullet describes a shape and this new version is a fashionable way to wear it – the trick is to make your cut softer and less angular as it is blended and more tampered than the 1980′s original.

With her Funky Style and Unique Personality; she was looking for a haircut that expressed her individualism…and the MoMu Modern Mullet suited her personality perfectly!!!

The Mullet is actually two defined haircuts on one head of hair; the MoMu although still two haircuts is longer around the ears, and shorter on top which is more seamless in 2017.

Ciara, started off by cutting the base to the length of a Bob; then she cut the top to the desired length and connected it to her fringe (bang) in addition to connecting  it to the base length by using a razor to blend. Ciara, used the razor to take any weight out and add texture. Ciara, then cut into her fringe (bang) to give her a more choppy look as she preferred effortless styling methods.

Finishing consisted of using a Salt Spray i.e. OSIS+ SESSION Sea Salt Spray & a Matte Pomade i.e. OSIS+ Mess Up Pomade

(OSIS+ Styling Products Available at Salon Pink)

Please note ladies that should you be expressive enough to try this 2017 hair trend – remember if you find shortly after that this look is a bit “much” for you; you can always cut your hair at the back shorter to take this style from two cuts too one!!!

The How To on Head Scarves

Posted On: April 26, 2016 By: Keri

With Summer trying to approach and endless beach or pool parties to attend this season, one must always bare in mind that the the integrity of your hair is of the utmost of importance. If you can prevent your hair from being over exposed to Sea, Sand & Chlorine nothing helps the most than a Head Scarf.

Celebrities such as Solange and Kourtney Kardashian are known for sporting beautiful head wraps and as they say, “intimation is a form of flattery” I have decided to give you these helpful tips so that you can re create these head wrap looks yourself (I will only delve into two looks, but there are so many out there and you have plenty of time for trial an error, so lets begin:

The Looped Headband

Step 1: Pull your hair up into a high bun or Afro puff. Fold the head wrap in half and place it at the back of your head before pulling ends towards the front.
Step 2: Tie the wrap into a double-knot at the center.
Step 3: Tuck the ends of the fabric underneath towards the nape of your neck.
Step 4: Slide the fabric back just enough until it has the feel of a headband.

The Sophisticated Knot

Step 1: Style hair into cornrows or another slicked-back style. Fold the head wrap in half so that it’s lowered to the nape of your neck and covering your ears.
Step 2: Pull the fabric towards the front and tie into a double-knot.
Step 3: Tuck the ends of the fabric into wrap so your hair is completely covered.
Step 4: Lower the head wrap so that it sits comfortably.

Glow in the Dark Hair Color

Posted On: April 22, 2016 By: Keri

Just when we thought there could be NO other hair color trends imaginable, along comes glow in the dark hair!!!

And just like with any other glow in the dark sticker or nail polish your glow highlights  need to be seen under a black light for the full effect. When viewed under normal lighting, the hue looks more like a super-bright neon tone.

It may not be the most realistic hair trend out there, but for those who do, the end result is pretty innovative.

Glow in the dark hair is realistic if your real world includes spending time in dark places with ultraviolet lights (Professional Raver) like a night club or trendy bar.

I would also recommend this look for artistic people who tend to have less limitation on their appearance.

Levi’s | Calvin’s | Diesel’s |True Religions & Hair Color

The denim hair trend is not unlike other bright and fun hair color trends, but it is always in a shade of blue to mimic one of our fashion staples: Blue Jeans!!!

The difference between denim hair and other creative color trends is that it doesn’t have to be uber saturated, like denim it can look a little faded and washed out. That’s great news for those of us who don’t have the time to constantly refresh our color BUT bad news for colorists as your 6 to 8 week touch ups can be pushed back to 12+ and it’s one that looks especially good against darker hair color bases.

Although the color should be slightly faded, you’ll still need to get regular glosses to maintain the finish and swap your traditional shampoo & conditioner for a color-saving formula (such as, Schwarzkopf BC Color Freeze Shampoo & Conditioner).

It’s a pretty one-size-fits-all trend that works on all hair textures and skin tones. Besides, with so many creative color trends that end up clashing with certain items of your wardrobe, it’s pretty refreshing to find one that goes with literally everything EUREKA!!!

4 Strand Braid – Summer Fun Hair Inspiration

Posted On: April 19, 2016 By: Keri

Not all braids are performed with three strands… they come in two strands and four strands and even five or six strands.

This super sleek 4 strand braid is the perfect summer fun style for 2016 (and not too mention SUPER easy to create at home). The 4 strands makes the braid look more three-dimensional while the top knot (your actual hair) creates a futuristic feel to the whole look.

Be a KNOCK OUT with Boxer Braids

Posted On: April 15, 2016 By: Pinky

I feel like this summer vs. last we are going to see a lot of takes on hair braiding…and with things beginning to heat up now is the time to source inspiration for your braided hairstyles and I have just the look that yes both women and men can enjoy the coolest hairstyle of 2016 are Double Braids, better known as Boxer Braids:

All About Braids

Being an island girl boxer braids (more familiar name: barley rolls) have been around forever, so when this look made the 2016 Hair Trends List I began to wonder if the rest of the world had their heads in the sand all this time as this particular look has been around for over 5,000 years. African people such as the Himba people of Namibia have been braiding their hair for centuries. In many African tribes hairstyles are unique and used to identify each tribe. Braid patterns or hairstyles can be an indication of a person’s community, age, marital status, wealth, power, social position, and religion – from Wikipedia.

We familiarized with this particular style again from the gym to the big screen with Hilary Swank, in Million Dollar Baby and have spotted Boxer Braids on the heads of many celebrities, and now, they’re even on catwalks.

Advise: My suggestion to those who are  braid newbies, then you better ask for the support of a friend.

Boxer Braids were born in the ring but this style works even for evenings out, days at the office and romantic dates.

Protect Your Hair from Chlorine

Posted On: April 11, 2016 By: Keri

Before swan diving into the pool wet your hair completely and saturate  it in conditioner, leaving it wet. Your hair will soak up the chlorine-free water and conditioner instead of the pool water, which will prevent the damage and color turning that chlorine can do “simple, short & sweet”!!!

BONUS: Mothers you will love this trick for your kids this Summer season…your welcome in advance lol!!!
